Performance Harley Exhaust Pit Falls

Performance Harley Exhaust Pit Falls

Exhaust System

The Harley exhaust system is as unique as the bike itself. It usually comes with a high chrome finish and it is easy to fit onto the bike. The Harley, or the Hog, as it is known, is a beautiful machine that should be treated with pride and care. The term hog currently stands for Harley owners group though the original term came was given to a group of farm boys that used to win all their races on the bikes. Their mascot was a pig and from then on the name stuck. For the Harley exhaust, numerous systems are available whether new or used. There are both advantages and disadvantages of using used parts. The major advantage is that they are cheaper than the original.

On the down side, the aftermarket for the Harley exhaust has many pit falls. The first one is that the part that is needed may not be easily available. This is due to the fact that most Harley tend to be highly customized. As a result, it may take a longer time to find the necessary part as opposed to going directly to the manufacture. The second pit fall is that the aftermarket is full of fraudsters. As with any other business there is a fake market for both new and used Harley exhaust spare parts. It is therefore up to the client to find out if their supplier is giving out the original product or a fake.

Once the parts have been delivered, they may not fit as desired. The product may have been modified earlier and may need further modification in order to fit on this new bike. This is an additional cost to the bike owner and may even end up costing more than if an original new part had been sourced for in the first place. Even when the Harley exhaust is readily available and fits properly it may have future problems that may not be obvious from the onset. These problems could be due to improper cleaning, storage and even shipping. There is also no way of knowing the origin of the product and whether the person selling it is its true original owner. The Harley exhaust system in question does not come with any guarantee if it is bought from the aftermarket. As such if there should be any problems in the future then the purchaser has to deal with them out of pocket.

The biggest pit fall one should consider before purchasing a Harley exhaust in the aftermarket is that it is not as good as the original. As such, the buyer should inquire as to why the current owner is getting rid of it if the transaction is on a one on one basis. Though the average age for Harley owners is 46 years, it continues to attract a younger crowd in different ways. Though the bikes might be out of their price range, there is plenty of Harley merchandise in the market for purchase.

Banks Intake And Exhaust Installation Review

Banks Intake And Exhaust Installation Review

Exhaust System

I'll start off by saying that my testing was performed on a 6-cylinder '98 Toyota Tacoma with manual transmission. It is very important to keep in mind the vehicle that companies use to do their testing. They will many times state the best case scenario. Of course they do this, they're trying to sell, keep this in mind when you are doing research for your next performance pick me up. So if you have close to what's under the hood of a 98 Tacoma that has 150,000 miles on it, then your ride is close to the condition as mine.

My goal was to find a system that came with both an intake and exhaust setup because I knew eventually that I wanted both, and I wanted to stay true to one company because I truly believe that if you go with one company, that they custom fit each part to work well together. I have seen several kits out there that are mismatched with different brands, and I have seen some funky fits under the hood.

My first step was to work on the intake. I wanted to measure the improvement of each individual upgrade, then measure the difference with both upgrades. I haven't read anywhere about anyone measuring the total improvement and seeing if each individual improvement equaled the total improvement or if more gains are received with both paired up.

The intake in my Tacoma was quite easy to remove, just a few brackets and all were laid out pretty clearly both in my owner's manual as well as the install manual provided in the Banks package that I used. I held on to my old parts from the filthy old intake (my truck does have 150,000 miles) just in case I need them in the future. The Banks air intake kit had all the clamps that I needed, so the new air flow was nice and tight. From the looks of how it fit near the rest of my engine parts, it looked like air flow would be more free, less restricted, and smoother, but I had to start it up to see the real difference. It sure looks nice under the hood too :)

I started it up with my fingers crossed because I'm not the most tech savvy with their vehicle, but it started out great and I could hear more power out of the tone of accelerating my gas pedal right away. The RPM's had a good boost to them. I took my test drive down my neighborhood street and onto the 5 freeway, roadways that I drive on a daily basis. I couldn't get over the tone and kept on wanting to smash the gas pedal down. I was able to get to 5th quicker and it run at top speed level on the freeway a bit more freely, not a huge difference by any means, but noticeable improvement. I measured the MPG for this drive before the intake and after performing the test, I was averaging a 1.5% on MPG. Not huge, but great to see because along with the improved power feeling, my engine was doing its job easier because of the improved air flow.

The next step was to remove the intake and put on the original one...wasn't too tough because I had just swapped it out earlier. I installed the Banks Monster Exhaust with 2 buddies of mine, it took several hours on a saturday. I would recommend doing the intake first in a test like this because they are easier to swap in and out when compared to an exhaust system, for sure.

So the exhaust individually was tested and the tone was exactly what I wanted. It almost had a diesel throaty tone, coming out of my Tacoma! Finally sounds like I wish it would when I was in high school. It also felt smooth at top speeds and went through each gear with ease.

The final test consisted of both mods at the same time. My intuition was correct on this one. For the overall feel, tone, RPM ticker, MPG boost of 3.3, I truly believe that you receive more returns by paring up two mods like an intake and exhaust upgrade. It does cost money and they don't come for free, but if your driving experience and appearance are important to you, I would recommend looking into pairing mods together instead of going for individuals.

Catalytic Converters and Your Vehicle's Emission System

Catalytic Converters and Your Vehicle's Emission System

Exhaust System

Before 1975 no U.S. vehicle came equipped with a catalytic converter. Changes in environmental policy -- started with the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] by the Nixon Administration - soon changed all of that.

Now, with very few exceptions, all vehicles must come outfitted with a catalytic converter. So, what does it do exactly? Good question...we will answer that query in this article.

When your engine burns fuel it produces gases that are harmful to the environment. If not handled properly, these same gases will exit through your vehicle's exhaust and work to do harm on the environment. The EPA, which was established in 1970, mandated that starting in 1975 vehicles were to come equipped with an apparatus to reduce dangerous emissions. The particular piece of equipment created to accomplish this task was the catalytic converter.

The catalytic converter in your vehicle is installed in the exhaust line between the exhaust manifold and the muffler. Pellets inside the converter work to transform detrimental gases into harmless gases before they exit the tailpipe and go out into the open air. As you might guess, a properly functioning catalytic converter is essential toward preserving air quality standards.

There are four telltale signs that indicate a catalytic converter will soon fail:

· Rusted or broken converter body or end tubes.

· Bits of substrate in other sections of the exhaust system.

· No rattle detected in a pellitized converter (If the converter doesn't rattle, the pellets may have melted together or fallen out).

· A rattle detected in a monolithic converter (A rattle in this kind of converter indicates the substrate has separated.)

If you see evidence of any of these signs, then you must replace your catalytic converter right away. If you don't, you risk receiving a ticket from a police officer and you may automatically fail your next motor vehicle inspection.

You can install a new catalytic converter yourself and save money on parts and labor. Shop online for the best deals going.

On-Board Brake Stroke Monitoring System

On-Board Brake Stroke Monitoring System

Exhaust System

On-board brake stroke monitoring systems have been developed to communicate air braking issues in real time with the drivers, inspectors, or mechanical personnel. These systems are designed to inform the vehicle operator of a number of different issues that could potentially happen with an air braking system.

The most common braking system issues are due to over stroking, non-releasing, or inoperative pushrod travel issues. When these issues arise the truck brakes can either work at a lower than the necessary levels or become completely inoperable.

By installing an on-board stroke monitoring system driver will be alerted to these potential issues in real time as they happen. The cab of the truck will have a driver interface installed that is designed to light up LED lights when potential braking issues are discovered.

Since drivers are often unaware of existing brake defects and reduced braking capability, brake monitoring systems provide valuable information to let the driver know when brakes are out of adjustment or not working properly so that corrective measures can be taken to maintain the vehicle's safe operation.

The on-board brake stroke monitoring system is able to alert the driver to multiple safety issues regarding the braking system. Drivers could be alerted to worn, seized, or out of adjustment manual and automatic slack adjusters, slack adjusters that have not been installed properly, pushrods that have been cut too short, ruptured actuator diaphragms or leaking airlines, plugged or crimped airlines, frozen or stuck air valves, cracked or broken brake drums, brakes shoes that may be "hung-up" due to other faults in the foundation brake system or slack adjuster faults, push rods that have not retracted due to components binding, broken parking brake springs, and worn S-cams.

Ferrari 458 Fabspeed Motorsport Performance Exhaust System

Ferrari 458 Fabspeed Motorsport Performance Exhaust System On YouTube.

Fabspeed Motorsport just finalized the exhaust and ECU performance products for the new Ferrari 458 Italia. In stock form the 458 put down 450HP/316 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels. First order of business was to build an efficient manifold which is a direct replacement for the OEM units. Fabspeed designed a header which had larger diameter primaries (1.75"/44mm compared to 1.5"/38mm) and feature a high-velocity 4-into-1 investment cast merge collector. The Fabspeed sport headers save 13lbs/5.9kg over the factory units, and improve power +34HP/38 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels @ 5900RPM. Fabspeed Sport Headers are a direct replacement for the OEM units, and can be utilized with the OEM catalytic converters or Fabspeed 200 cell Sportcats. Fabspeed's 200 cell, German imported high-flow tri-metallic sport race catalytic converters improve power by +24HP/20 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels and are a direct replacement for the OEM units. The stock catalytic converters are a 750 CPSI, while Fabspeed utilizes 200 cell OBD2 Euro level 5 catalytic converters to improve power, sound, while keeping the Check Engine Light off. These also save 11lbs/5kg compared to the stock catalytic converters. Again these are a direct replacement and can be utilized with the stock manifolds/stock muffler or Fabspeed's sport headers and Maxflo Muffler system. We designed our Maxflo mufflers as a direct replacement for the large OEM mufflers with factory valves. This 2.75"/70mm system improves on ...

Exhaust Systems For The Hobbyist

Exhaust Systems For The Hobbyist

Exhaust System

There are exhaust systems and then there are exhaust systems. Your vehicle's exhaust system does everything that it needs to do to keep your car performing properly as well as to protect the environment safe from harmful pollutants. When it is working properly, that is. Not every owner is satisfied with stock exhaust systems, particularly the hobbyist or recreationalist who uses his or her vehicle for leisurely pursuits. If you are a hobbyist and you want a system that performs well beyond what a stock exhaust system has to offer, then please read on for some important information.

So, what is your sound preference? Say, what?! Yes, one of the attributes of a high quality performance exhaust system is finding one that brings out the sound that you want it to make. Generally, there are three types of exhaust systems sounds you can choose from. Gibson Exhaust, a popular manufacturer of performance exhaust systems breaks it down as follows:

High: Produces a sound of high volume and intensity. Expect resonance with the cab.

Moderate: "Big Block" powerful exhaust tone with minimal resonance inside of the cab.

Low: Produces a mellow tone while it maintains a stock sound within the cabin.

Are you not sure which type of system that you want? Then, simply stop by the Gibson Exhaust site for sample sounds of the exhaust system for your truck or SUV.

Beyond sound, there are several other characteristics of any performance exhaust system that should be noted. They include:

More power. Stock mufflers can restrict engine power by as much as one third. With a properly specified and fitted performance muffler in place, air flow restriction can be reduced significantly. The result will be borne out every time you pull something or when you climb a hill as torque is freed up to bring out additional power.

Improved fuel economy. An efficiently working engine burns less fuel. With a performance exhaust system in place, your engine has a friend and not a foe that works in conjunction with the engine to achieve higher fuel mileage.

Longer lasting. What good is paying extra money for a performance exhaust system if it doesn't last longer? Made from aircraft quality stainless steel, your performance exhaust system can easily outlast the life of your vehicle. Depending on the manufacturer you choose, warranties as long as one million miles can assure that the exhaust system you place on your vehicle not only avoids corrosion but is also the last one it will ever need.

Certainly, performance exhaust systems can cost a lot more than stock systems. For the hobbyist who enjoys the throatier sound, stronger torque, and improved fuel economy, a performance exhaust system makes perfect sense.

How to Buy the Ideal Window Exhaust Fan

How to Buy the Ideal Window Exhaust Fan

Exhaust System

Window fans are easy to incorporate in any interior design as much as windows are a natural, energy-saving way to sustain proper ventilation. They are fans intended to be placed within the frame of a window, and a lot like their natural precursors, they have been designed to circulate cool air, as with a window cooling fan, as well as clean air, as with a window exhaust fan. For today's severe summer heat and temperature fluctuations, these fans provide a cost-friendly, energy-efficient solution.

While a heater keeps rooms insulated and an air conditioner cools them down, a window exhaust fan expels stale air to make sure the cool air you are breathing is actually fresh. Unless your home or office interiors require absolutely cold temperatures, an exhaust fan creates a cool breeze at a fraction of the cost of an air conditioner. Industrial fans generate greater centrifugal action for carrying cool air all throughout.

Consider a window fan that can be switched between intake and exhaust modes. Nice features your fan should have, because they are common enough, include two or three sleep-friendly quiet speeds, an automatic shut-off thermostat or timer, and easy to see lighted controls. Invest in an exaust fan with a 360 degree dual-axis rotation, if within budget, so it rotates horizontally and vertically.

The typical window exhaust fan has an electricity powered motor but a solar powered portable fan comes in handy for producing a cool breeze wherever you are. A window fan doubling as a table or floor fan would be another smart investment.

Rocket Motor Based on Rapid Fire Pellets Exploding in Long Exhaust Tubes

Rocket Motor Based on Rapid Fire Pellets Exploding in Long Exhaust Tubes

Exhaust System

Rocket Scientists are constantly looking for new more efficient and safer ways to fire rockets. Due to the problems that are posed when multi-staged rockets many nations, space programs and military's still to this day have a tough time launching satellites, staging rocket and missile demonstrations and putting equipment and people into orbit. Over the last many decades unbelievable numbers of catastrophes have taken place costs 100s millions, even billions of dollars in hardware and too many lives to even wish to talk about. This is a critical issue indeed.

Therefore, I propose a new type of rocket motor system that is based on the new rapid fire weapons systems where each projectile fired lights the one behind it causing it to fire. However, instead of bullet projectiles, I propose using small balls of fuel that are sucked into a Venturi Tube after firing and then once compressed by the pressure moving thru the tube they fire and explode.

This causes the rocket to accelerate. Since, each line of projectiles can be monitored and then started when ready the rocket's sensors can let out the exact amount of propellant projectiles needed for a perfect and safer acceleration, as needed. Since this system is safe it can also be used to launch hypersonic aircraft, space craft or satellites into orbit. Perhaps it can also be used for rocket assist as needed in some aerospace applications.

Since, these rapid fire weapons systems already exist, it is my estimation that the cost to test this scheme would be in the 10s of millions if not less and thus, it makes no sense not to try it and see what we come up with after the tests are concluded. Good luck in your mission to create the world's safest rocket motor and God's Speed to you and yours.

MBRP S9102409 SMOKERS T409-Stainless Steel DPF Back Cat Back Exhaust System with B1616 Stacks Overview

MBRP's XP Series is the performance exhaust of choice for the enthusiast who needs a system that can take anything that the road throws at it. This system's rugged sixteen gauge T409 construction can be counted on to withstand everything from salt to rocks, tar to grime. MBRP has had such success with this line that MBRP backs it with a Lifetime Warranty. Built to Perform: You count on your truck to tow all of your gear to where you want it. With your MBRP performance exhaust you can make that happen with up to 18 HP more horsepower and 28 ft/lb more torque. Give your truck more pulling power and much improved throttle response with an MBRP diesel exhaust system. MBRP's systems are so much more efficient, it will be easy to see what your truck can really do. Minimize Backpressure: The secret to getting more out of your diesel engine is to give it lots of cool, clean air. The only way that you can get fresh air in is to get the hot air out. From the spiral louvered high flow muffler to the fully mandrel bent tubing to minimal bend degree angles, your MBRP performance system gets exhaust out fast. Drop exhaust gas temperature by up to 200F and set the stage for all the performance you want. An MBRP performance exhaust system is the starting point to getting the most from cold air intakes, programmers, modules and downloader's. Easy Installation: MBRP systems are as much fun to install as to drive with on your truck. Bolt-on, no weld design makes installing this on your truck a no hassle one and a half to two hour project. Everything is direct fit to the OEM hangers and you get all the clamps and parts you will need, all in one box, no matter what configuration of truck you have. Sound and Style: Every MBRP performance exhaust system has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your pickup.
